Matt;
-answer one question first, and the rest comes easy.
Does the driver drive with his arm outside the coaming with his elbow on the deck;
-or 'straight arm; ie;- left arm inside the coaming and straight
forward.
Best to fit it too the driver, but do not get upset if he changes it every race or so till he/she gets it right
Who is the driver?
-anyone I know?;)

Matt, I posted a couple pictures recently of an inside mounted throttle. One was of Lee Tietze's 350 hydro and the other was Wartinger's Cmod kilo boat, which had a Keller setup. Look under "pipe puller" or "hardware".....

if you cannot find them, email me and I will send them to you....

just lay up an angle bracket and bond that to the floor. Leave a space for your knuckles to clear the coaming. I suggest you use a "backwards" throttle, one that you pull the lever to open the butterfly. Rossi makes one, Tom Cronk sales them for less than $40. The benefits are when you dump the throttle your body weight wont push the throttle open and they are tiny. Just make your own throttle wire with braided stainless and outer bowden cable.

Matt,
It took awhile, you've probably tested already. Rossi throttle and a Tietze steering hub. It's the "euro way" to mount the wheel flat. Avoid my mistake when rigging, stay sober, and run the right side cable lower than the left. Your knuckles will drag the cable. Situation was made worse by running cables under deck, but it looks cooool.

What should the measurement be between the cockpit and the inside of the throttle? I may have an application for something like this.

Even in kneelers, we've been mounting throttles inside since the late 80's. It always comes down to driver comfort. several inche's is all it takes for the knuckles. We mounted the Konig throttles and pipe puller on a plate with standoffs to get clearance.

Eric,
I'm thinking four inches. I just don't want to get the throttle set to far away from the cockpit. Just curious where to start.

Joe;
-ask larry Downs[50N] to send/post u a pic of his Sorenson/lay down with the Konig throttle mounted on a 30degree block to the inside coaming. It forms a small 'shelf' to rest ones hand/forearm on. A reverse, pull back throttle may even work better. :cool:

This is how I mounted my throttle,it works great and was easy to do.The chest support is not shown here.

"speak of the devil"
-that was quick, Larry.

Now all u need is one of those spiffy leather wrapped
Italian wheel's, like Eric shows in the new Pugh.

Is it a little chilly in Daytona this morning?
Sure not pool weather here in Sebring

Thanks Larry and Brian,
Larry, how thick is the block you mounted the throttle to? I like the idea of cutting it at 30 degree.

Joe,
The boat is up in NY and I am in Florida (thank God)and I can't remember how thick the angle block is at the top,a little over an inch I think.I just ran a piece of pine board through a table saw at that angle then traced the throttle shape on it and cut it out on the band saw.I have since moved it lower than this picture shows and my arm is inside.I bought a pull throttle from Tom Cronk and am thinking about trying that this spring.
Brian,
You are right it is cold here in Daytona,about 55 degrees but 80 by Sunday, but that is not stopping the "animal life"from the Bike Week action,they (we) are everywhere!

Joe,

In my old 250 kneeler I inset the throttle 2". This was in a boat without any side relief. The 125 laydown just happened to be 2.25". Remember that cockpit widths are usually only 15-18" wide.

Check out the Laydown throttle that Lee Tietze makes. It comes with a mounting bracket for laydowns cockpits. There is a picture of it in the buy and sell section in a thread named "Billet hardware for sale". All of Lee's hardware is second to none, and very reasonably priced.
