Try Boyesen Engineering 610 756 6818. Makers of Boyesen reeds.
You can also find them on the internet.
Mike, I cut my own from G-10 or G-13 board. PM or email me and I'll send you some material in the mail.

Sam,
Is this G-10 or G-13 board readily available? If so, can you give us more specifics? thanks
Mike
Yes, most plastic suppliers should have it or be able to get it in a variety of thicknesses, cloths and resins.
If you find a place that has it, you'll know when you see the one you want.
You can cut it with regular scissors. I use the point of a pocket knife to make little round holes and I file the edges smooth with a nail file, but you can use sand paper or a file.
Buying hint: instead of a full sheet I sometimes get what ever leftover small scraps they have at a discount.
I'd like to try carbon fiber, but don't know where to get it or maybe just don't know what to ask for. I've heard the carbon fiber is very hard to cut, but I'd gladly tear up a few pairs of scissors trying.

Sam,
Thanks for the info and response. It's nice to have a "real" conversation on here.

Sam I just checked ebay for carbon fiber sheet and there is a bunch on there all different thicknesses just do a search for carbon fiber sheet and it will come up.
Thanks, George. I did a search and found about 300 pieces of vinyl decal that looks like carbon fiber and about 20 sheets of carbon fiber that I am afraid are much too thick.
I think we need something in the .010 to .015 thickness range.

I wonder in Boyesen would sell you any carbon material
might be worth a phone call
Mike
I'm sure Boysen will sell you carbon fiber reeds, but they are quite expensive from them .....
I did a websearch with Google ....... BINGO! .013 and .020 thick sheets at a reasonable price .... oops, didn't see that they only ship in big boxes by UPS .... minimum shipping is $8.75 for something that you can mail for 37¢. If anyone wants some of this stuff let me know and we'll do a combined order to knock the shipping cost down.

Check your local hobby shops to. Mine carries sheets of it or the RC Cars and boats and things.

I just came back and saw all the stuff here about cutting reeds and carbon fiber. Neat. It seems straight forward for a simple oblong reed like most of the Merc crank reed cages use. What about the flower petal style like the OMC25 has? That is what started me. Can it really be as simple as tracing the shape of the metal reed?

I just went off and looked in McMaster-Carr and while I did not find any thin stuff (all 1/32" and up) I did find a lot of tech info about Garolite in grades from G7 to G30 and Carbon filled. Look in the materials section at http://www.mcmaster.com/ if you want to know tensil strengths, hardness, resin type etc.
:( I called every hobby shop in the Baltimore and Annapolis area today. All of them knew what I was asking for, but none had it. One said he could special order it. Bummer.
I think there is a hydroracer.net member with a hobby shop connection .... maybe he can get it for us.

TDR Tony Ducas Racing
He is the end all be all of reeds.
Has various custom glass and carbon materials in stock.
Has most outboard stuff on the shelf.
His reeds are cut on a cnc router with a vac table.
Custom sets take about a week and all he needs is a drawing, cad file or a cage to work with.
It's hard to get to him personaly but the office girls are very knowlegable.
Great people to deal with!!!
Looks like Burt and I are the only ones interested in some carbon fiber sheets. A square foot (actually 11 X 16) of .020" from The Robot Market place is $26.95 .... thats enough to make about 90 Merc reeds.
11 x 8 of .020" is $13.95 from them
I want to get a 11 X 8 of .013" for myself. Their shipping to me would be $9.75 for the 2 sheets.
Burt, I'll split the shipping with you one of 2 ways .... you pay 1/3 if the shipping ($3.25) in cash or let me cut 2" off of your sheet of .020 ... your piece would be 11 x 14 (still bigger than a square foot). I'll eat the cost of mailing it to you. Your costs would be $26.95 or $30.20. Let me know if you only want a 8 x 11 of .020" instead of 16 x 11
If anyone else wants in I'll pay ½ of the shipping and Burt and whoever else only pay $2.50 each of the shipping.
Here's the bottom line from Boysen: #22108 for a 2 cylinder Merc : $44.95 for fiberglass #24116 for a 4 cylinder $82.95
for an OMC triple $71.95

Guys Tony has tons of materials that he considers application specific, he is not in any way a one size fits all guy.
Lots of marine exposure too like all of the Mad EFI reeds & stuff for Tony at SVS too.
Almost forgot ( good prices)Too a set for a 2.5EFI is about $200 retail.
(800) 321-6354
Theres a web site too
(I forgot the address)

Sam The 11x8 sheet of the .020 carbon fibre would be plenty of material for me. Happy to split expense with you if you want to initiate the order etc.. If you need cash up front,
E-mail me... Have tried many componds, would like to cut my own into some weird configurations. Currently using Boyesen and some .040 thick phenolic resin material. B BURT
