Don Hagerl is the chair for the SORC promotions committee. We are looking for input concerning a new Stock Outboard brochure. The old one had a bunch of decent pictures on the inside but a goofy pinkish runabout looking thing on the cover. Please let us know if your club uses the brochures that get produced by the SORC every once in a while or does your club make their own? Do they work or do they end up on the ground? How does your club promote itself at races? Do you hand out printed schedules with club contact info? Lots of different approaches, let us know what works and what does'nt.

Also, let us know if you think a new SORC promo brouchure with good pictures and descriptions of all of our classes is a worthwhile investment for the SORC, or can we get a bigger bang for our buck elsewhere? If we did go ahead with the new brocure, it would be available to all clubs. As part of your decision making process, assume the SORC brochure would be available to your club at no charge.

Please reply here or to BP125V@cs.com

Thanks again,

Bill

Brochures are great, I use them at 2 shows that we do to promote some of our races. The thing that I beleive is in dire need is a promo video/DVD.

Last year I used some old Nationals videos that I had purchased, the noise attracts a crowd at a show. But imagine being able to walk into a meeting with a prospective site sponsor etc.... running a 5 minute video about the sport, set to music etc.....

A number of years ago when I was running inboard, the Valleyfield club had a promo video set to the tune "Danger Zone" lots of action, spray a couple of blowovers etc... it was an awesome sales tool.

Bill, I would be happy to donate photos to the effort (of course, they're all Left Coast boats).

I seem to recall a great promo video we had many moons ago. I think Dave Little did it, so of course the video opening *music* was the ever-so-sweet sound of an American Hot Rod. Beautiful. I loved that video.

I think a short promo video put on a CD would be great.

It would be so easy and inexpensive to make and copy that you could hand out copies to anyone who shows a little interest.

And on the same CD we might be able to put data files with stuff like a directory of clubs, list of boat, engine and hardware sources and other stuff that we get asked about.

Plus it would be easy to update with new information or customize to your own club needs.

Mike, I have been planning on doing that at the few races I will attend this year .... out of my own pocket. It will only cost me a few dollars.

For as little as a CD costs, the promo committee should seriously consider it.

NOTE: It doesn't need to be professionally "produced" like a TV show - It doesn't need a $500 set up graphic stenciled on it - and it doesn't even need to be in a jewel box, a blank paper sleeve will do.

I try to take the SO brochures and a few of the free hand-out versions of Propeller Mag to every race and a printed up page about my boat and motor (sorta half because I get tired of answering the same questions all weekend about the motor).
