Just started building a late model 25 to run in the NBRA MOD 25 class. Need some help from some of you XS guys. I have heard there are several different carbs for this engine. And that there several different changes that have to be made to make them run right. This engine will be run with an expansion chamber, any ideas on jet size. Going to run this on non-Merc downhousing so it willrequire an external water line to the powerhead, any ideas where I should route the water into the powerhead. Been studying this but have not been able to conclude how Merc routed water into the powerhead.

hey Art sounds cool. I have a 25 mod expansion chamber pipe spec diagram if you want it... Yea jake lol Just seeing if anyone had some 25xs cowls to see what the inner dia. is to see if I could fit them over my huge 25ss recoil...I have no clue about the 25xs powerhead...and diagrams or pics anyone? Would be greatly appreciated......I think I have to focus more on getting my 25ss TOGETHER and in the water rather then cosmetics :o

I have a few shots of my 25ss on my webpage more later

hi Art, I tried several times to post the drawing but hydroracer said it was too big even after reducing it to 20K...maybe the pixels are too big...I'll try one more time and if no luck just email me at madcow24a@hotmail.com and I'll send you a clear copy. I was also told that yamaha made a RZ350 street bike (350cc or so) and had twin pipes and these pipes would work for the 25 mod motor... You just have to shorten or lengthen them, I forget...The stock ones are heavy but the aftermarket ones are alot lighter, DG makes aftermarket I think and I looked up the cost to get the pipe made from that drawing , it would cost about 150$ or so......without silencer, that's from a guy around here...Are you building a motor from scratch , do you have a 25xs tower? Hope this helps, Shawn

This is a scratch build. Just fitted a filler block for the exhaust today. Using a custom downhousing that Jack Kugler built. You can contact me at hasbeeny111@aol.com

Not sure if all you guys are on the same page here...

25SS 22ci crossflow Mercury based on the old timey Merc200 20hp motor

25XS 24.5ci looper design based on Mercury 25hp 1984-present

I think Art is gonna run against the Yamato's with the later model 1984 to present powerhead. I've never heard of any fillerblocks or pipes for this powerhead... But I definitely have my ear tilted towards this thread now!

Yes it is the 24.5 ci engine. Will run against the Yamatos in the NBRA Mod 25 class. John Snell makes a filler block for the exhaust. Just looking for some help from some of you stock guys as regards the carb & cooling of this engine.

Better explain MOD25 class. Your allowed Yamato 102-202-302 or Yamaha 24.5 ci. or Merc xs 24.5 ci. You can run any exhaust or lower unit. There are few other mods that you can do to the yamatos. The confusion is that NBRA has the B-1 class which is the same as the APBA Mod 25 class.

are William Bowden and Bill Baker. Both are from the Houston, TX area and I think would be on the NBRA membership roster or for sure the older AOF rosters.

Also, Art, you might ask the mechanic for the Guadagnoli team in Pineville, LA. They were very helpful when I first raced my 25XSH.
