As many of you know and are still discussing, Dennis Westby's R89 FE Hydro, Spokane, Washington, set two new NBRA records at Moses Lake, Washington for the 3/4 mile and 1 mile course. Powered by a Cheyney Street built (3) cylinder fire-breathing Johnson and piloted by Eric Korpe of Seattle, Washington, set the NBRA 3/4 mile record officially at 56.679 mph and the 1 mile record officially at 70.735 mph. The real truth is, R89's speeds for both record runs were considerably above those speeds posted, but due to some technical difficulty with the race officials and their measuring devices, only the posted speeds were awarded.

The boat started out being an Apel, but is far from it today. The boat would not perform as Westby envisioned when it came from Apel. The tunnel, sponsons and traps were all re-designed to optimize the boat for speed and performance. Most of the work was done by Rod Black, Spokane, Washington.

ONE THING YOU GUYS FORGOTTEN WITH THE ABILITY AND CHENEY STREET IDEAS FOR THE DIFFERENT DESIGN ON THE WHOLE BOTTOM AS WELL AS FIN PLUS HIS ABILITY TO BUILD ONE HELL OF ENGINE WE WOULD NOT BE WHERE WE ARE NOW . CHENEY STREET IS VERY CLOSE FRIEND AND ALWAYS HAD FIRST SEAT IN ANY OF MY AND OUR BOATS. I SOLD HALF OF THE BOAT TO CHENEY LAST YEAR AFTER A FEW KOKANEE BEERS. ALL WHAT THIS SNAIL BOAT HAS ACHIEVED IS DUE TO CHENEY STREET AND ALL HIS HELP LIKE THEY HAVE SIAD WAIT TO NEXT YEAR. GUESS WHAT NEXT YEAR IS HERE AND WE ARE COMING BACK STRONGER. KEEP THE KOKANEE ON ICE AND WE WILL BE THERE. SEE YA TONIGHT DENNIS WESTBY THE SPUD (SPOKANE PROPELLER AND DOCK}

Attached (I think) is a photo of the left side of my FE ride. This is the first boat that Apel built specifically for the class, and IS different from all of the other FE boats he has built. Different because the other drivers did not want the numbers that I did. Mine runs great and turns like it's on a rail. Engine department is on a HUGE learning curve, but that's not the boats fault. We'll be hangin around this summer, and mabe we can supprise a few guys.

Hope the picture makes the trip.

Mabe it was Apel......... No not really, just my simple mind thinking of the cost of repairing fancy paint should the need arise. Been doin things that way for a long, long, long time.

BTW, nice paint job yourself. Off to work a double today. All you guys play nice.

Geeze...you guys.,...who the fastest and got the most power....west coast we run different courses than east coast for the most part i just want to go raceing with guys ive always heard about and have fun and party and if i win cool and if not o'well..makes me work harder..when it comes to records for me thats all bussiness...i was retired until dennis called me and now where on a mission....its hard though 3000 miles apart...when i set up boat for lawerance lake we where running a quick 93mph with speedo in ..ime old school there...thats what boat was doing at moses lake nbra record...so no we are not running near 100mph ..believe me i know the difference ...there is alot left in the set up and motor to do it but it was only 3rd time in boat..yes we run 2 fins on boat for some courses and then some i take 2nd fin off....i think my boat i built will be better comp boat we will see....plesinton we got schooled o well..motor just wasnt running then sunday not at all...got motor home and found problem ..its hard flying in and expecting a spud to have motor running right when even spud sais he dont know that much about motors ..o well next time...and give billy clinton and micheal there dues there fast also... theres always plenty of beer when we race together..and we have fun main thing...and i enjoy helping others just as much......i want to know ho said there will be mandated capsules if we are all to go 100mph ...bull!!!...alkies where doing it for years before capsules....

I am with you guys, even if we get consistant over 100 MPH, NO CAPSULES mandated.

I know we can hit 100 MPH consistent now, given a record run with special boats and setups that are not normal competition set ups. I think we are almost to the consisten 100 MPH in competition, but not on most Mod courses in the Midwest. I don't think a true 1100ccH could get it on some of our courses.

Anyways, good to know some people like to have fun racing to.
Beer is always good, Ice Cold Labatts Blue !!!
