I'm glad that you were able to get that site back, Jim. :congrats: We raced there in the 1960s. It's a great place!
Looking forward to this race. Any ideas on possible date?

The date is set for Sept. 17 & 18th 2011. :boat:

This looks like a great race site. It is very convenient to Rt 80 and the PA turnpike NE extension. Also, it is very convenient to New England and New York along with Regions 4, 5 and 6. Hopefully the other regions will protect the date.

isn't this the traditional date for region 2 crystal lake?

Mike, yes you are correct that is Crystal Lake's date.
Jim, thanks for your work in advance, new races are always exciting to see!
Especially is a great location like this!
Last year we had two open dates in the schedule....
July 4th weekend and the third weekend in August.
Would they possibly be interested in either one of them to avoid Crystal Lake?

We hate to go against the other race but unforutunately that is the date that the town wants us there. It's going to be a Lock Haven type atmosphere with the town being involved and a festival on Fri/Sat/Sun.

What about the traditional Fall Franklin weekend
That has been the 4th September weekend and was dropped this year
Does region 6 see that coming back?
The race that replaced it in Alexandria, KY is far enough away to not really be a conflict if that is a new annual event.

Mike, read Shawns' post.
Will the race be near the Main St bridge?
jtower3941
11-02-2010, 08:37 PM
The race site is below the Main St. Bridge. The Park is called Race Way Park.
It is about 2 mile below the Bridge. Will be posting Google Earth view and pic. in the near future.

I really hope you can revisit the date.
If this is knowingly scheduled to conflict with Crystal Lake it will get almost nobody from Region 1 or 2.
And of those from Regions 3, 4 and 6 who come, probably half would have otherwise gone to CL.
Both races will suffer badly.
If this weekend is cast in Berwick stone then I have to at least ask -- could CL move a week to the Fall Franklin slot?

The date for the Berwick Race cannot be changed, That is the weekend they specifically asked us for. They are willing to give us sponsorship money. That being said it is the plan of DVORA to give out tow money to drivers that come to Berwick. The amount will depend on how much we get from the sponsors and will be paid out in even amounts after expenses are met. We, as a club, are very sorry that we may be going against Crystal Lake but our hands were tied and God knows we need more races to try and attract racers to our races.

It is really unfortunate to have a new race competing with
an established race in Crystal Lake NY. This is the only race
that the Fishers Landing Racing Club has now and there is a
long history of great races held at this location. Apparently
this date cannot be changed at Crystal Lake either. I think
both races will suffer and this serves no one. I will be at CL.

Well... we're gonna rock the Lock cause we like DVORA and everything they try to do, but we're also going to do Crystal Lake because that's where we have found D Stock and 20hydro rocks. Plus, the possibility of scoring a run down at the Dancing Dog Saloon just seems to get better one hat after the other.

The schedule conflict devloping with these two sites is a wrong thing at a wrong time. If the Berwick date is truely cast in stone, let us know up here. Our Chrystal Lake race is on private water and we MAY be able to adjust our date. The difference these days between a 'successful' race and one which over-runs the club funds is slim. These sites are so close that both events would suffer. It is a real turn-off to show up at a race and find out your class does not have adequate participation. A year or two like that and your event will not be sustainable. If we have to compete with Berwick for attendance, we will find a way to outdraw you. If the dates can be different, you could count on good numbers from our region.

Hunter,
The tone of your reply is very ominous. Maybe I read it wrong but we were not trying to create any hard feelings with the Crystal Lake race. Berwick has offered us sponsor money if we come on that weekend and that is the ONLY weekend that they have open. If we at DVORA could move it, we would!!! Due to those circumstances we do not have any other options but that weekend in September.

Berwick is a great opperunity for all our regions. A very convenient location and tow money. The date is fixed, so what ever you can do to adjust your date will be in everyones interest. Please try. As always all classes are available to run at DVORA/region 3 races.

Scott, I'm not sure I would talk to the ex Navy Seal that way but suite yourself......
I love DVORA and all that they do for boat racing but money or not this is a bad move on the clubs part. We are too small of a community to have race dates conflict. I understand the law states no two races for the same category in the same region can conflict. However, regions 1, 2 and 3 rely on the same participants and to have races on the same dates is absurd.

We agree it stinks, but how are we going to pass up sponsorship $ and a town that wants us? They want us that weekend, that is the only possibility. You mentioned yours may be moveable, yes? Besides, why would you as a region care about another race in another region if you have the ability to "outdraw us"???

I sat home a lot in July and August, last season, just looking for Races. This is a tough call for any Racer, Mike Kench and I discussed it, during the week before his death, we both decided to wait and see what happens during the season. It would be Great if we didn't have to decide!
Thank You,

Just a thought.... and as the sticky post noted:
Please only post information related to finding race sites, pictures of race sites and hotel/motel information for race sites.
Maybe Jim could re-name the subject line of "New Race site in Region 3 to something like "Berwick, Pa" (and the lake name) in order to keep the Racesites & Venues thread properly organized like other threads here are. Personally, I love the intended idea of having a thread with only pertinent info relating to a racesite, and not so much chatter, that could otherwise be located under the race regions "race updates & info" pages...
Im just sayin' and be happy!

Berwick race is scheduled for Sept. 16th, 17th, and 18th, 2011. All SO, MOD and some PRO's and J's will be on the schedule. C-Stock, B-Stock and A-Stock runabouts will be the North American Championships (NAC) Prize monies and gas cards will be paid to 3rd place and a gas card for 4th place for NAC.
We have a J project starting friday. A Sorrison hydro will be build by the boy scouts and a J motor presented to a new Berwick driver, if one is interested, or to a new J hydo driver.
A pit dinner is scheduled for Saterday night.
The town of Berwick is presenting fireworks, sat and sun concerts, consession and vender street, and many activities for childern and family in Test Track Park, site of the Race.
The pit area is very much like Lochhaven with plenty of parking and a lot of trees for shade. Wide and short ramp to water. Plenty of space.
Off Route 80 1hr and 20min east of Lockhaven, 30 min west from Route 81 and 45 min west from North South Pa Turn pike.
Going to be a great race this year and years to come.
com-puter put this on you schedule.

Berwick, PA
Berwick, PA is going to be a brand new race site for DVORA. There were races held on this strech of river during the 60's, but we haven't been back since. The town of Berwick is providing us with an opportunity to put on a show. There will be a carnival during the race day and a warm welcome for the racers is expected.
The pit area is a paved parking lot and a brand new two wide boat ramp makes for easy access to the waters edge. More info will be posted as it becomes available.

Like it says on the back doors of our race trailer: "Dude.. it's too late!! ..the Russians are coming...to a peaceful lake near you!" So..., me and my boy are headed to Crystal Lake again this year. We'll be looking forward to seeing all 'the friendlies' (rob dixon, the keegans, Fran Johnson, Hunter Grimes..etc) who will be trying to beat our butts in D, FE, and 20ssh. And, we might even have a toilet bowl on a runabout to dice with the 'Classic' maple-leaf crowd.
SO... DUDE...The Russians are coming.!!!.. to (Crystal Lake) a peaceful lake near you!

Mother nature has spoken. The Susquehanna has flooded the area where the pits and the Festival were to be set up. The Town of Berwick has had flooding and well as the whole Susquehanna river basin.
BERWICK IS CANCELED :pullhair::shucks:
Please let everybody that was going to Berwick, that the race is canceled and that we are working on a alternate date. Keep looking for the new date.

Sorry to hear Mr. Towers. You do so much for our club and we thank you for that. It's a little bitter sweet. We can re-schedule for a better date next time and you made all those contacts in Berwick. Also, with the help of Berwick Brewery, we should have no problem getting a sponsor.
Thanks Mr. Towers!

I was looking forward to this race. It was going to be my last one for the season. Oh well, I think I'll order a new wheel instead. Thanks Jim for working so hard on this. It may be a blessing if you postpone it. You might draw some of the racers who were going to Crystal Lake.
