i'd have to say here in region 10, j micheal kelly in osy is nearly impossible to beat. i guess you could even put him on a national level in that regard, the guy is just unreal in that class, and of course the many others that he runs. i have to give a close second to my girl sheryl rucker in 20ssh, over the past three years she's lost maybe three to five heats, and set two world records, i know i'm bias but she's pretty tough to beat as well. kevin

definately the toughest competitor out here in stocks (20SSH/CSH/CSR) is definately Gary Lewis. When running stocks Steven Dawe is also extremely good. I have not beaten them yet.......but, will this season (hopefully). I could safefully say those 2 guys are the best in California!

The best in the midwest in the 4cyl mod classes is Kevin McAfee. He is hard to beat.

RJ West is one of the best drivers i have ever seen. It doesn't matter what he races he usually wins. Right now he is running 45ss tunnels and is very hard to beat. As for mods, Donnie Morris is very hard to beet in DMH. My two cents.

you think otherwise Bill???? Yes i do. in Calif in CSH there is Gary Lewis, Steven Dawe, Matt Boyes, Roger Hewsen. Joe Johnson are the guys to beat. any one comes out of the first turn first wins. And do not forget Buzz as he will win more races than any of them as he Never jumps the gun. CSH at the winter nationals will be one heck of a boat race. with real fast rigs coming from region 10 and the mid west guys. They are always fast.

as to Buzz winning more races than any of them, I highly doubt that anymore! Bill, you should look who is wearing the "1C" title in 20SSH and CSH......Gary! Beyond that, this year is going to be the best yet, I guarantee that!

ya, I agree that there are REAL FAST guys (probably faster than us) that will hopefully come from the Midwest/EastCoast for the WinterNat's.

My top choices running stock hydros from Reg10: J.Michael, JW, and Sheryl! Hopefully Roy Blackwell will be able to get back into racing also, as he was very tough to beat also.

My top choices for best overall driver out west: J.Michael Kelly and RJ West...........they can win in just about anything.......

REGION 1 - Ken Rosado - Past 14 years has been 1US, 2US and/or US1 every year across four classes (FAH, BMH, CMH, FEH) except the year he broke five ribs mid-season and had to sit out the rest of that year. Has had FEH 2US every year since he entered the class. He has raced and won against all the major contenders in the classes he has run more than they have won against him. He often wins against drivers who have faster equipment than he has. Region 1 runner-up would be Billy Allen.

- Bill Rosado

In my opinion for Region 6 (in no particular order):

ASH - Kevin Ladd, Jared Rykse, Jay Fox (when he's racing little boats)
CSH - Dean Sutherland, Joe Pater, Joel Weigel, Ron Mlot
DSH - Tom Smith, Jim Sweeney
25SSH - Tom Smith
20SSH - Kevin Ladd, Dana Holt, Joel Weigel, Joe Pater, Ed Harrington, Jerry Brewster, Nate Forshey (so many because there would be between 14-18 entries all year)

ASR - Terry Kerr, Jay Fox
BSR - Dana Holt, Don Hageral
CSR - Tim Ross, Joe Silvestri, Joe Pater
25SSR - Tim Ross, Joe Pater, Vic Brinkman (when he breaks it out)

Weigel has shown consistency over the long haul in the Yamato classes, and so has Tom Smith w/ the Mercs. I know I forgot some other great drivers, but can't remember them all off the top of my head. Also, some really great drivers from nearby Region 7 and Canada that we race against most of the time.

Overall, I know he gets a lot of run, but I would have to agree Billy Allen is as though as they come. Any class, any rig he runs you have to watch out for him.

If I had to put one driver in my rig to win one race though it would be Mark Miskerik, with Dana Holt as a close second. These guys never seem to screw up driving. If they have the speed to win the Nats they do!

Personally Joel Wiegel has been my biggest challenge in the CSH. He is the only guy that has got me on the "inside" and not just once he has snuck in their a few times.

I'll agree with Brant on the East Coast guy

but I'b add Craig Bowman in CSR

now that he's back racing, and is finishing up his new boat him and Rich Runne are the guys to shoot for.

In Region 1... I agree with Bill, the best current racer is Ken Rosado. We have heard that he isn't that fast and lacks acceleration... so why does he beat everyone? Because he is one of the best boat-racers on the planet!

In region 1 I would have to Say Billy Allen and Ken Rosado are a close pair. Billy is on top of the game right now, he runs more than one class, so maybe I can say he has it for now. Ken is my toughest and most respected competitor. I have only raced against Billy Allen once, beat him, but only because he borrowed a rig for DMH, and had a problem.

I would have to say that in Region 2 in CSH the top guns are

Scott Clark
Chris Miszner
Jeff Thompson
Joel Weigel

Interesting to see that you are an authority on Region 1. Yes, Billy is very strong in BMH right now, but do you remember that Ken won BMH nationals 3 times in five years (the last one head to head against and with a slower rig than Billy) and threw a CMH nationals in there along the way. Now he has just gone 5 straight years as National High Point in FEH with 1 national win and 3 runnerups during that stretch. He has also been a top dog in ASH, 15SSH, CSH, DSH and FAH winning 1US and/or 2US in these classes also. We in Region 1 have also seen these two run head to head and when the speed is fairly equal we know who usually comes out ahead. Billy Allen has an impressive resume, and is no doubt one of the best ever in the game, but as a biased brother, Ken is the man. - Bill Rosado

Speaking as an opinion, not authority, geesh Bill. It is good to see you share such brotherly love though. I was considering more recent than past, sorry. I will try to refrain from being a Region 1 authority, you have it wrapped up.

You said it, biased brother. Family should stick together, I agree.

Guys, got your new Proppler Magazine?

Take the top 5 or three and thats our top dogs for 2003. Yeah it includes some of those in this thread, but it also includes those committed to APBA racing a racing consistancy.

Even the top 10 speaks volumns.

Lets make 2004 an even better across all catagories

I actually do not think the High Points standings mean that those guys are the most competitive or the best. Heck, even I ended up in the top 5 in 20SSH, but know **** well, alot (maybe all) of the drivers in Reg1/6/, etc are way better than me. National finishes really determine the "big dawgs"........

sheez, you guys have an all star cast (stocks I run, I am refering too)........Miskerik, Sutherland, Allen, Ladd, Wiegel, Bowman, Pater, Kargus, Runne, Ross, Silvestri, and on and on and on.......WOW!!!!!

makes me want to give up stocks and move to Pro ...........
