View Full Version : Another thought...More races
Here's something to add to the mix: I sent letters out to all new SO members asking them to return a questionaire to me about what the SORC could do to improve SO racing. (This was the only list I could get due to the computer problems; the A drivers' survey never went out). I recieved back lots of suggestions. However, far and away, the most common response was: MORE RACES! Dana's right; run three races and you've got enough to pay for a forth. Or, take the extra money and throw a driver's party. We put one on this year at Dayton which was a blast. It cost about $450 up front and we broke even (Bobby L. donated the Elvis-guy). 14-H.

Something for everyone. Region 11 has 10 2day events scheduled for 2004. thats 20 races. in our case lower entry fees mean more boats on the water. more region 11 racers attending races in region 12 where $60 per class is not uncommon.
lower insurance fees for the clubs mean clubs have more money in the kiddy to fund better equipment to conduct races. this is a win/win deal.
Ed-
I have to say I love the idea of more races!!! But will those who volunteer to be inspectors, scorers, etc agree? I'm sure you hear several of the same things I do on the way home from a race, unless the radio can go any louder. Nonetheless, from a $$$ standpoint, I believe you can't get enough time in the boat durring the summer!

Bill, part of the reason I race alot in your region is the slightly lower costs, which allow me to race more classes. We (Reg12) cannot really charge any less entree fees, simply because we do not have the larger membership as you do in Reg11. Plus, you guys do have alot of races..........the best part!!
PS: the city of Carlsbad wants to promoto the lagoon now and is actually wanting to have a boat race there.............so, I gotta get together with Ernie.......
Didn't you guys race there WAY BACK WHEN??:D

yes we raced twice there a year. i cannot believe they want us back. boat racing that is. in the mid 1960's non APBA drag boats had a race there that drew a lot of unruly spectators(Hells Angles types) and they trashed the town. That and they built homes around the lagoon. that was the end. of boat racing. there used to be a restaurant in town that served chicken family style. good place.
in the old days Carlsbad was a small military town as Camp Pendleton marine base is nearby.
