Anyone know the plans for Oldtown this weekend. I went down there tonight and the water is still WAY high and movin fast. Still no beach at all under the bridge and along the shore.
Is it going or postponed?

Well the selfish side of me says good, I have too many family obligations this weekend, brother will be in town for the first time in three or four years.
The cautious side of me also says good. It looks like crap to me. The hydros have no launch area. The only place they can go is in the bushes and grass, or share the ramp. Not to mention the fast water.

The water is still roaring over here in Montana. Our river feeds the lake that feeds the river thru Oldtown. We are getting ready but I don't see how it is going to happen. I think it will be a nice camping trip. Maybe a miracle in two days?

Heres a thought, don't come. We have never raced when it was not safe. Montana was a prime example. In fact we called it Friday and Saturday and yet the flats still went out!! Ron is going by info from folks that live close. He is not going to drive 3 hours one way to check the conditions every other day.

there is another water check being done this evening!!!!! i understand your frustration, however give it the due time for everyone involved to gather more info, etc... and then await the decison like the rest of us. i think ron saying (possitive thinking) was his way of doing what he can to keep everyone, in a possitive mindset. none of us can change what mother nature has in store for us, i assure you, as mike stated the "correct" decision will be made, and certainly safety will be at the top of the list, just as it was in montana. if you missed drivers meeting in montana, ron even got choked up, speaking about the drivers safety. kevin martin

Even if we don't race we will still have a good time. They sure did in Montana

It well be a fun get away even if we don't race! :buddies: :camping:
I however am thinking positive like Ron.
We got one out of three days in Trout Creek so I figure we well get two out three this time and the rest of year we well be good to go!!!

Looking at the picture on Facebook, things are looking much better. May not make testing on Friday but I bet we'll be racing over the weekend.:boat:

Well I certainly wasn’t trying to stir anything or bring negativity. More than anything I’m just disappointed I wont get to participate much, if there is a race.
I crossed the bridge about 15 min ago and it looks the same to me. No big deal though, after all, camping is at least half the fun.
Fri Ill proly come down and throw my boat in for a couple. Hope to meet some of you I haven’t had the opportunity to meet.

the pictures just posted on Face book show massive improvment. To fly over the bridge says nothing without reference points to compare. I think it will be good at least for Saturday and Sunday. I really was hoping for testing but oh well. I am keeping fingers crossed.

It is a nice spot. You can camp on Asphalt or Grass and the chamber usually sell burgers or breakfast.

We had an AOF West Nationals there once. Water was up and rapid at that time too, but it went down in a hurry. Very cold water though. We had such a good time. Seems racing was secondary to the restaurant across the bridge in Washington that had Brent Harnacks boat mounted above the salad bar for a sneeze guard. Then there was the ever important go kart racing. Sure was a fun week end. Even though we had blown a motor in our suburban in Sheridan, WY and was almost late. Luckily the nice folks of SLORA had us unloaded and in the water before we even had the trailer parked. Then we went home via Sand Point and Kalispel on Highway 2. Oh, what an awesome trip. Good luck to all.

Funny you bring that weekend up. Kevin Martin and I were just talking about that weekend. For those of you who weren't there we raced on the south side of the bridge, and the pilings for the dock were under water. Yes under water, which means the water was 10ft or so higher than it is now. This was also before the concrete barrier wall was installed to the left of the ramp. We re-arranged the schedule because we knew the Payns were on their way and had trouble. We had Brians boat out of the trailer and rigged by the time he had changed his clothes. He really didn't know what to think at first as he didn't know any of us...LOL Those were some good times back then.

Only if you bring some buses for anchors and lots of fuel for the crash boat as you have to keep it in gear and about 1/4 throttle just to stay in place:rofl:
Looks like there is talk about racing on the other side of the bridge and pitting from the ramp and under the bridge

What did you use in the "good old days" since the water was higher back then for anchors? :)
I have never really looked at the other side of the bridge. Is it a lot different. No holes??

We were just tougher back then. lol:claphands:
Those were really good days. Lots of Easterners coming out for the races, maybe the Westerners were fraid we would beat them up if we didn't race for a little thing like too much water. :)
Not to hijack the thread, since this is a serious matter, but those of you AOF people West of the Rockies should have a reunion with the AOF East of the Rockies at the Nationals in Pineville over Coumbus Day week end. Nice weather there in October. Would be great catching up. The Original or Eastern AOF has been very active this year with the normal racing from Long Island to Florida to DePue to Pineville. Dan Parker and Bobby Laws are doing a great job as officers for this Section of AOF. A reunion with all you nice people would be so much fun. I miss you all.

mike, the other side isnt bad, little smaller course usually, little weird approaching the bridge, and those large cement uprights with the current as swift as it is, but doable. had a good time both sides, the best, is racing on the downriver side of the bridge (the usual side), in a pro boat, and shooting the bridge on the starts, now thats fun!!!

I guess if you lose power better have a good paddle to get around the pilings. We should be leaving about 4 this afternoon.
Should get good GPS reading, like 80MPH one way and 50 MPH the other way. LOL

Yep, this is a downside to the moving current. If a boat goes dead, your almost always have to black flag it because that boat will end up on the race course eventually.

Mainly Mercury's ....LOL
No just the usual brake rotors, cement blocks, steel beams. The key is to use a lot of rope, other wise the bouys will pick up the anchors and carry them away till they hit ground again
