the last post on the pro engines thread, and the blow in the tube thing reminds me of a story from a couple years ago, i was in my 350 getting ready for the start of a heat, standing next to me was john peterson, he's gotta be 6'4" 250 or so, when the gun went off they told him to blow in my tube, and pointed, he blushed a little bit, and said,"i'm not falling for that guys, what do i really do?" they could not convince him you really needed to blow me up, meanwhile the 4 minutes is ticking away, finally someone steps in blows me,(pardon the termonoligy), and off i go. we've laughed at him for the last few years, but believe it or not he now does a great job, pressurizing my tank for me, thanks john. kevin

I wasn't able to start a few heats be not having the fuel blown up. I used to do it myself before getting in the boat alot, but can understand in the excitement of the moment, sometimes things get forgotten.
Learned a neat little trick from Gibby Petermann. You know how an alky tank has 2 lines? One deep to p/u the fuel, and the other at the top to pressurize the system. Well, Gibby had 2 at the top of the tank. 1 stayed plugged into the puffer on the engine with the check valve, and the other ran to the front of the boat. I put a ball valve up there, with a short length of hose so I could blow up my own fuel system. All the apes had to do was make sure the cap was on right, and I could tell if it wasn't in an instant.
Eliminated 1 more potential problem-----I could only blame myself if it happened again.

I was helping start a buddy for a race in Constantine, MI. Being a MOD guy, It wasn't a habit for me to blow up the tank, and I forgot to do it in the excitement. As a pit helper, there's no worse sound than hearing the engine scream to get on plane halfway and then bogg down like a dead duck! WWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEErrrrrrrrrrr*cough*.... :(
That's a great idea you used to prevent dummy's like myself from giving you a quick DNS!
