Tom Stone, former Fairgrounds stock car track official starter flew the flags for Nascar style timing in to qualify for four different classes of flat bottom racing. Oh the good old days!

This shot is a puzzle to me, Cheryl in the Sanger qualified into the A fast heat and I only made the C heat so I cant figure this shot out unless we were simply comparing speeds! Boy won this drag race!

Next fastest lap qualifiers:

Steve, Mark H.,Todd, and Tim, in the heat which eventually caused cubic inch classes to replace Nostalgia qualifying forever. Most of us still prefer timing in as this race will go down as the most popular EVER! Close, exciting racing for 16 boats! Four sets of trophys.

this ones for you! One of the most photographed flips ever!
Cause: speed too fast for conditions and once you are here, say goodnight Gracie, there is no turning back!
Cheryl was only shaken up and her missing shoe was found and the boat returned to the next race to win its class. It could have been much worse as you can see in the sequence how close the bow came to her! She now rides motorcycles for fun and claims they are way safer!

Dont you?

Incidently, the reason this veteran flagger could not do this again: The club did not want to set up the scaffold at Moses Lake and there was no room for him at the docks end where the clock was!
You, know guys and gals, it could be this race that made so many racers BIG fans of throwing the clock away for flats and NOT because we cant clock start! Ever watched the start of a Nascar event??
Yes, we take a lot of ___ for flag starting. As a driver, there is nothing like it for close, exciting, racing in my opinion.
Montana would be a good spot to put on one great show!

I sound like I'm preaching from the apple box again! Good! It's a free Country with free speech! Isnt it?
Someone should stand up for the huge class of flats that used to be and wonder how to bring those numbers back! If you dont have warm fuzzies for our bunch or ME personally, that's perfectly fine, but do you know how much club money was generated for 16 racers?
Lets see, $600 for ten plus $360 is $40 shy of ONE GRAND!
Thank you SLORA for accepting different strategies and ideas for our class! And especially, keeping for the costs down!
